Episode 162: Inclusiveness

A female Thor! A black Captain America! A straight Constantine! This episode has it all true believers, except Asians. Would an Asian Hulk get mentioned on the View?

In this episode, we discuss the recent examples of inclusiveness in comic books and games as well as whether or not you should try to make your games more inclusive. Like everyone else, we forget that Captain Marvel, a black woman, led the Avengers in the eighties and that the previous leader had been Wasp, another woman. Lyal even had those issues.

Episode 145: Crap Movies, Great Games

We’ve all been there. Your evening starts with such promise. Then, ten, fifteen, or twenty minutes into a movie, you realize that the movie is going to suck – hard. A crap movie hurts in so many ways: sadness, loss of time and money, boredom.
Idle Red Hands can help. Idle Red Hands is a prescription podcast that treats many symptoms of crap movies by showing you how elements of them can be turned into great games. Don’t let crap movies crap on you.

*Tell your doctor right away if your boredom worsens, you have unusual changes in behavior (besides better games), you have thoughts of suicide, or you find Wayne’s jokes funny. Side effects may include backache, earache, and nausea. If you have an allergic reaction, such as hives, rash, or swelling of the lips, stop listening and consult your doctor.

Episode 76: Rogues: Black Marketeers

“In the criminal Idle Red Hands system, Rogues will be separated into two separate yet equally important groups: the crimes and the people who commit them. These are their stories.”

The month of debuts gets another debut! This time, it’s Rogues, a look at criminals and the crimes they commit. We look at the proud noble tradition of deal dealers, gunrunners and pimps (and those guys that sold jeans and Beatles records in the Soviet Union). Believe it or not, we actually suggest how to play black marketeers. Chris tries to cheat by recommending a “black” marketeer who provides food to the starving, but Wayne and Lyal put a stop to that nonsense.

Episode 56: Pantheon Pandemonium: Olympus

“The gods give two sorrows for every blessing.”
-Achilles

Here’s your blessing. Apologies for the future sorrows.
In this latest installment of the Pantheon Pandemonium, we discuss the Greek gods and how to use themes from Greek mythology in your game. We also discuss the worst birthday gift you could possibly give your husband or wife. Hint: It’s worse than giving him or her that game you want so that you can “spend more time together”.

Episode 52: Slavery

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word “slavery”? “Fun”? “Engaging”? No? Well, after this episode you just might. Probably not, though.

Episode 5: Identity Crisis!

Episode 5 takes a look at playing different ethnicities, cultures and genders than your own. We discuss what we consider important in creating, playing, and GMing very different characters. Even if, apparently, all of Lyal’s characters are sarcastic, all of Chris’ are Scottish, and Wayne’s are accidentally bi.

We also touch on the use of voices, playing non-humans (slightly), and the current competition for top-sexy.
