The Weekly 073: 2020 in Review The Good and the Bad (mostly bad) of Last Year

We look back at 2020 and all the things that could have been great but had to suffer from our global condition. The Witcher and Tales From the Loop hit TV. Mork Borg and Ironsworn caught our attention as outstanding RPGs. Warcaster: Neo Mechanical by Privateer Press came and went. GenCon 2020 was cancelled along with everything else. The Dead Milkmen released the Lost Tomb of the Bitchin Chimera for 5E. Heroquest was update and released on HasLab. The Quest RPG still has us curious. Cyberpunk Red on the tabletop preceded the unfinished and buggy Cyberpunk 2077 for PC and consoles. This was not the Year of Dune as we previously predicted. Games Workshop releases the 9th edition of Warhammer 40k and really screwed anybody trying to sell their games, but their webstore. Alan Dean Foster was not paid by Disney and thinks Rey should have been a droid. And finally, the KFConsole is the joke that won’t go away.

The Weekly 068: Fantasy Flight Miniatures Games Change Hands, Disney Branded Modern Boardgames, #DisneyMustPay and PC RPGs Versus Tabletop

Fantasy Flight miniatures games are handing over management to Atomic Mass Games also owned by Asmodee. They had success last year with Marvel Crisis Protocol. This will include their Star Wars games, X-Wing, Armada and Legion. Fans seem to be happy with the move. Many modern boardgames are having new branded editions using Disney IPs, including Star Wars, Marvel and Disney Parks. Is this a good move to get more people into the hobby? Does this mean these modern games are considered classics? Or will this ruin the experience and players will feel they have outgrown them? Also, Disney has stopped paying royalties to Alan Dean Foster for his novelization and sequel novels for Star Wars and also the Alien franchise. What does this mean for copyright and the future of creatives writing for established IPs? #DisneyMustPay #atomicmassgames #starwars #alien

Idle Red Hands Weekly 042: The Rise of Skywalker, The Last God Sourcebook from DC Comics, Second Aeronautica Imperialis Boxed Set and Return to Dark Tower

Various versions of The Rise of Skywalker have leaked. An Alan Dean Foster treatment and an early script draft by the dismissed director Colin Trevorrow. We have posted our review with the return of Alan to the podcast. DC Comics is releasing a 40-page sourcebook for their fantasy series, The Last God. Oni Press gets into boardgames. The return of the coolest boardgame to ever hit the planet (their words, not mine), Dark Tower is resurrected as The Return to Dark Tower. It burned up Kickstarter and hopefully won’t disappoint. How much nostalgia is there left to grab? #returntodarktower #riseofskywalker #thelastgod
